In 1998, Summer Palace in Beijing was inscribed on the list of world heritage by UNESCO.
Located in the west of Beijing, The Summer Palace was first built in 1750, but largely destroyed in the war of 1860 and restored on its original foundations in 1886. As a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design, the palace is a complex of rockery, hills, lake, pavilions, buldings etc. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value.
The must-see thing in the palace is the marble boat that stands at the end of the 728-meter painted corridor. The boat is 36-meter long with 2 storeys, the entire boat was carved from a huge marble rock apart from the second floor that was built with wood but painted whitely to become part of the marble boat.
