Temple of Heaven and Imperial Sacrificial Altar in Beijing
In 1998, Temple of Heaven and Imperial Sacrificial Altar in Beijing was inscribed on the list of world heritage by UNESCO.
The Temple of Heaven, located in the southeastern part of an area that was originally the outer city of ancient Beijing, stands to the east of the central axis running through Tian'anmen, Qianmen, and Yongdingmen. As representative of the largest existing building complex, it was for holding sacrificial ceremonies during ancient times in Ming and Qing dynasty. Beginning in the 18th year of the Yongle Emperor in the Ming Dynasty (1420 AD), the construction of the Temple of Heaven went through several modifications and expansions and was completed during the reign of Qianlong Emperor in the Qing Dynasty.
It was forbiden for common people to wonder around the temple in the ancient time, but nowadays Temple of Heaven is a wonderful park for the local citizens to enjoy their lesure time here. From early morning to later afternoon, many people are dancing and excersing in the garden. It is highly recemmended to visit there in the morning to join the local people dancing and excercing to have fun.
