Meet your private guide in the lobby of your central Chengdu hotel at 7:30am. From here, it's a short journey to Chengdu East station where you can catch the train to Leshan in just under an hour.
It's just a brief drive from the station to the Leshan Grand Buddha. Completed in 803 AD, during the Tang Dynasty, it stands 233 feet (71 meters) tall, and even its fingernails are as long as a human being! The largest surviving ancient Buddha, it forms part of the Mount Emei Scenic Area UNESCO World Heritage Site, and sits at the confluence of the Min, Dadu, and Qingyi rivers.
After you've scaled the steps to admire the Buddha, and taken some time to appreciate the landscape, embark for Luocheng Ancient Town, about 38 miles (60 kilometers) from Leshan.
Built in 1628 in the shape of a boat, Luocheng is famous for its well-preserved original architecture. Your guide will help you navigate the pretty town as you take photos, taste local foods, and perhaps chat to a local or two.
Once you're done exploring, you'll drive back to Leshan railway station to catch the train back to Chengdu. A driver will collect you from the station and transfer you back to your hotel, arriving around 8:30pm.
