Zhangye is located in the middle part of Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province on the ancient Silk Road. In the center of the city Zhangye, there is a well-known Giant Buddha Monastery. It is called Dafo Temple in Chinese(大佛寺), the Giant Buddha Monastery is a nice place to visit.
As the largest indoor reclining Buddha statue, it is 34.5 meters long with the sculptures of Buddha's disciples standing behind him. As per the history, the monastery was firstly built in Western Xia (1038-1227) by royal families.
The monastery is also the Zhangye Museum which houses sutras, paintings, carvings and relics that was discovered in Zhangye on the Silk Road. The travelers can visit both the temples and exhibitions when they travel to Silk Road.
