Guangdong Provincial Museum, is situated in the new CBD in Zhujiang New Town. As a modern comprehensive museum, the museum houses over 160,000 pieces (sets) of collections. The old museum was open to the public on October 1st, 1959. Then the new museum was built in 2003 and finished in 2010.
The new museum covers an area of 41,02 square meters with construction area of 66,980 square meters and display area of 21,000 square meters. It looks like a delicate ancient openwork container of treasures. Permanent exhibitions in terms of Guangdong History and Culture, Guangdong Natural Resource and arts (including the Duan inkstone, Chaozhou Woodcarving and Pottery and Porcelain) as well as temporary exhibitions are exhibited in it. Furthermore, perfect infrastructure and management systems will enable the Guangdong Museum to be a modernized large-scale comprehensive museum, top-ranking in the nation and advanced in the world.
The museum opens from Tuesday to Sunday, and from 9am to 5 pm. It closes on Monday. Admission fee is free of charge.
