Liu Rong Temple


Liu Rong, means "Six Banyan". The temple is a 1400-year-old monastery,dating from 537AD. It is a famous buddist cultural site. In Liang Dynasty,a Buddhism priest planned to go to Cambodia to bring the Buddhist relic back to Guangzhou. So the Emperor required to build the temple for storing the relic. The temple destroyed by fire and rebuilt for several times. But it got the name "Liu Rong" in 1100AD, Northern Song Dynasty, from a celebrated writer Su Dongpo.The major structure in the temple is Liu Rong Pagoda, and because of its beautiful look, it is also called "flower pagoda". It is 57m high, with 9 storeys outside, 17 storeys inside.
