When you travel to China you have to know Facebook, Twitter, gmail and Google cannot be logged in.
However yahoo.com is possible to explore, so you can use Yahoo mail to contact with your friends
Then here is the question, how do you contact with your people in China? what are your social application in China? You have to know Facebook and Twitter are dominated by English, which most of Chinese do not understand. Actually we have similar applications such as Weibo that is similar to Twitter, QQ Kongjian or Renren that are similar to Facebook etc. Hence it doesn't bother our life at all though we can not log in Facebook and Twitter.
We Chinese prefer applications in Chinese version. However it is very difficult for Westerners traveling to China using social media here, you have to know it before you come to China that you can not log in these applications. Unless you have got VPN that can help you log in.
