Che Shi Gudao, or Ancient Road of Cheshi, 车师古道, is the ancient route from Lukexin town of Turpan to Dalongkou of Jimsar County in Xingjiang, which connected Cheshi Front State and Cheshi Rear State since Han Dynasty about 2000 years ago. It was situated on the strategial section of the Silk Road in the history, westwards to the central Asia, eastwards to inland China, southwards to Liuzhong (an ancient county near Turpan), northwards to Mongolia Plateau.
It is still possible to hike on this route for about 42 km. There are ancient houses and beacon tower on the route, and the snow covered Tianshan mountains are very impressive along the route. The hike is rated middle difficult and need about total 4 days from Urumqi and come back Urumqi, and hike around 3 days, camp 3 nights. The best season is from May to October.
