Covering an area of 4,573 sq. km, the Qinghai Lake is the largest inland salty lake in China with the altitude of 3,200 meters above the sea level. The Qinghai Lake is famous for its vast areas, charming views, and the tranquil atmosphere so that there are thousands of travelers coming here to visit, particularly in Summer. There are endless pasturelands around the lake with flocks of sheep and cattle grazing leisurely and the herdsman's yurts dotted here and there together with the reflection in the lake of the distant snow covered mountain offer an inspiring sight. Cycling races around the Qinghai Lake is famous in the world in July. There are some islands in the lake, of which Birds Island is well-known for the all sorts of birds to stay in the island.
Tibetans live around the lake in the villages or yurts where you have opportunity to learn the Tibetan culture. There are Marnyi Stones located in different places for Tibetans to warship mountain god and water god.
